Dec. 2, 1978 - The club dedicated the bar area of the BHYC to Tom King giving the bar the name "The King Lounge". This honor was given to Tom for his 28 years of devotion, friendship and loyalty to the B.H.Y.C. on the year he passed away.
Dec. 1991: Jim Dunne was honored with a "life-time mebership" for his service to our club. Presentation was made on Opening Day 1992.
May 23, 1993 - Gary Schmeelk Day - Gary has been a mainstay of the club for over 50 years. His unselfish support and dedication to the club's various programs, especially the tennis program, is a model for all of us to emulate. It is with great pride and admiration that the board and all our members say, "Thanks Gary". (December 1992 newsletter)
Gary and his wife Kay were also honored with a "life-membership" for his service.
Oct. 2, 1993 - Gary Schmeelk Tennis Dinner - a S.F.D.S. mass followed by cocktails, dinner and live music honored this decicated clubmember who has since passed away. "Gary was a very humble and private individual who would never accept personal acknowledgement despite his lifetime of achievement and unselfish dedication to our club and the entire Rockaway community." Oct. 11, 2001 - The club honored member's of the club who lost family members in the World Trade Center attack with "life-time memberships".
Dec. 10, 2003 - The honor of "life-time membership" was awarded to George Murphy for his service to the club.
July 21, 2005 - The club began to honor individual club members for their distinguished service to the club naming the award the Walter Patterson Award. The first receipent of the award was Walter Patterson, himself.
Walter has been a steadfast supporter of the club and continues to monitor the summer parking detail and gardening duties around the club. He was also given a pear tree on Opening Day '04 in honor of his service which was planted near the bay tennis court.
Jan. 12, 2008 - The honor of "lifetime membership" was bestowed upon Bill Moore and Bill Laffan for the distinguished service to the club. The Walter Patterson Award was given to Kathy Courtney and Brian Kelly for their outstanding service to the club in the year 2006 and 2007.
